Show Catch up - New Forest, Mid Herts & Welsh Championships

Posted on 05/08/2008

We still havn't finished the Royal International write up, but felt we should fill you in on last weeks goings on......

New Forest

We started off on Thursday the 31st of July with a long trip down to New Forest, after the traumatic week it was quite nice just to get back into the swing of things with a show. It was to be a successful day too!

Mr Shrimp Manners (Breamish Julian) ridden by Millie Manners won the M&M Lead Rein class, after having notched up 2 - 2nds, 3- 3rds and 2 -  4ths in this years HOYS qualifiers it was his time to take the qualifying card. With 54 entered and nearly as many forward it was a marathon class, with entertainment provided in the form of the 'Flying Frenchman and his 5 geese' overhead for  much of the class!!! After winning this class Millie jumped onto Roselisle Something Blue and finished a great 5th. Back onto Shrimp for the Championship and a well deserved Champion!!

Meanwhile Poppy Duncalf had to stand in on Millie Manners new ride Daukester Simon of Warleigh in the 12h HOYS Show Hunter class as Millies M&M classes were clashing. Poppy did a great job and finished 2nd.

Emma Jackson riding Highmead Sheer Chance seems to have 3rd-itis, in her 148cms HOYS Show Pony class, Emma once again was 3rd! So close everytime and once again qualification went to 2nd. This ever consistent pony must have his day soon!

With Sally Coates in Barbados and Sam Coates only in the early days of her new job (Well Done Sam!!), Emma stood in and swapped onto Sally Coates Catwalk II for the HOYS Coloured class. We then started to think that it was Emma who had 3rd-itis and not Jimmy as guess what another 3rd and 2nd hadn't qualified!!!

Mid Herts

One day at home and off to the next show - Mid Herts. After her good result with Millies 12h Show Hunter Pony on Thursday, Poppy jockeyed him again in the HOYS class as Millie was up in Scotland. Not to dissapoint Poppy won, making her the 20th combination on the team qualified for HOYS!! Charlotte and Squiggle - Tamarind Fascination, 14h Show Hunter Pony, only joined the team several weeks ago, after we had qualified our 2 - 14hs it meant we had a space so this was only their 2nd show with us! Hard work paid off, after being pulled 3rd, Charlotte executed a foot perfect, stylish show with an amazing gallop, to come up and secure her HOYS ticket - her first one ever. Well done Charlotte and Squiggle (Number 21!).

After not having a pull in the 128cms Show Pony class, Alexandra Hollings and Alison & Tony Georgakis - Parkhill First Edition performed a lovely show and came up to take 4th spot. Great result as Ra only meets Suzy at shows! Next stop Bakewell, watch this space....

Welsh Championship Show

A local one for us, we popped round the corner to Shrewsbury Showground for the Welsh Championship Show. Freddy Welford riding Waxwing Pastille were 2nd in the Open Lead Rein class and then went onto take Reserve Champion in this section. Alison and Tony Georgakis asked Freddy if he would jockey their young pony - Polaris Unicorn (only his second show ever!) in the Novice M&M Lead Rein class. Not wanting to turn down the opportunity to ride, Freddy did a great job and won the class and then went onto take Reserve Champion in this section too. Back at the lorry Freddy (4 and a half) took us all on an ice cream date before going home. (Think he may need to change his tactics as he gets older though - 7 girls to just Freddy isnt going to work in future - or maybe it will!!!!)

Finally WELL DONE to Elliot Galbraith (Caitlin's brother) who has just got his exam results and he did brilliantly. (He obviously did study Lisa!!)
